This week’s weeknotes comes to you from the Winter Gardens in Sheffield. As we all work from different locations, Lindsey and I have taken the opportunity to catch up in person in her hometown. As we write, we’re sat in an enormous greenhouse filled with palm trees and crisp northern air.
A slightly shorter update this week. Across the Atlantic Laura is continuing with her user persona work for Lincoln Castle Revealed, meanwhile Alyson is on holiday.That leaves two of us, but there’s still plenty of news to share.
First of all, Lindsey’s been kicking off on a new, top secret project. We can’t tell anyone about it yet, but – without giving too much away – we’re working on a new mobile interpretation service at a major gallery. The project is all about doing things differently to create a unique visitor experience, so we’re going to be working in a whole new way. Our research and design process will be fully built into the development of the service as we partner with a creative digital agency to deliver this exciting project.
More innovation is on the way this weekend as Lindsey will also be joining Museomix UK in Shropshire. She’ll be coaching cross-disciplinary teams, building prototypes for new digital experiences at Ironbridge Gorge. She will be looking for help throughout the weekend so watch out for #helptag on Twitter.
After last week’s research down at the National Maritime Museum, I’ve been steadfastly listening back to hours’ of audio of kids experimenting with the Neptune Court Great Map experience. By filming groups moving around the space – a fantastic room-sized map of the world if you haven’t had the chance to see it yet – and marrying that footage back to the audio, we’ve able to get a great sense of what’s really getting audiences interested.
There’s also work going on internally. In the midst of a long process of tinkering with our online systems, we’ve all been trialling Teamwork PM – a project management tool that we hope is going to make it a lot easier to work and plan collaboratively with all our clients and partners. So far so good…
