The ask.

The Digital and Innovation team asked FG+W to support them to develop their  input into the National Trust’s 10-year strategy. They wanted to explore how digital technologies could best help the Trust deliver their mission in the future, test the organisations assumptions while identifying potential challenges along the way.

The answer.

Our task was to help the Digital and Innovation team articulate their department’s vision for digital transformation, review any gaps or challenges, and explore socio-technological trends that could impact their ability to achieve their ambitious goals. This process was designed to give them the clarity and confidence they needed to embed digital solutions into the Trust’s future plans.

The approach.

We designed a structured process to guide the National Trust’s Digital and Innovation team through this journey. This included:

  • Conducting in-depth trends analysis and peer research, which involvedspecially commissioned recorded interviews, desk research, and data analysis
  • Analyzing the socio-technological trends that could impact the organization’s ability to deliver on their goals
  • Facilitating discussions to help the team articulate the resulting vision andidentify any gaps or challenges the gaps and challenges they would need to address in implementing the resulting strategy

Through this approach, we provided the team with a comprehensive understanding of how digital technologies could be leveraged to enhance both their on-site visitor experiences and their online presence.

The outcome.

The National Trust’s Digital and Innovation team came away with a clearer vision and a stronger sense of direction. They felt more confident in their ability to support the wider organization in achieving its 10-year goals and were excited about the potential that digital transformation could unlock for the future.

By identifying key trends and potential challenges, the team was better equipped to drive forward with their digital ambitions, ensuring that the National Trust remains relevant, innovative, and impactful for years to come.
